Brunch at MariVanna

If you haven’t heard of this famous chain of traditional Russian restaurants, then you’ve been missing out in life! MariVanna is a group of 6 restaurants, out of which two are in Russia (St.Petersburg and Moscow), 1 in UK (London) and 3 in US (New York, Washington DC and Los Angeles).

This is the most authentic Russian restaurant I’ve ever been to! All of these restaurants have an amazing, shabby chic interior that reminded me very much of Russian Summer cottage – Dacha! All of the food I’ve tasted there was 100% as if my late Russian grandma made it in the kitchen. From stuffed piroghi, blini to salad Olivier and potato vareniki.

We went twice for brunch at an LA location ( on Melrose Place ) and everything was absolutely exceptional, from the service, availability of traditional drinks such as kompot and kvas to the food which was simply put: heavenly!

Now comes the sad part… We wanted to return here this Sunday as well and make it our “every Sunday” brunch spot, but we got very disappointed to get the call that our reservation needed to be cancelled since the owner has decided to close down the restaurant. I still have no idea what happened since it was a hot spot in the city and like I’ve already mentioned everything was exceptional and unique about MariVanna but whatever was the reason for such a sudden decision, LA food scene will be lacking a real Russian experience and food adventure.
