Visit Helsinki: YUME-tastic

September 7, 2016

I’m not sure how many of you have watched or remember the legendary TV series “Cheers”? That little cafe where “everybody knows your name”? Yep, that’s how I feel each time I step inside of Yume restaurant, as my second home, place where everybody knows my name and every time I come there, I know that I’m up for a special treat. Ever since discovering Yume’s fusion flavours bringing us the best of tastes of Asia, I have been a devoted fan of their kitchen and vision. After following through their 4 menu changes, I can only say that they’ve been getting more and more inspiring with the selection of dishes on the menu and the way how they get the best out of each dish is still unresolved mystery to me. 😀 How can they deliver at all times with all of the dishes on the menu? I mean, their sides are equally mind-blowing too.

Yume chefs are masterfully painting with their magic wands every day of the week, except Sunday and Monday. Let me tell you a little secret… If you really want the best, freshest and top notch quality dishes, esp. those raw/ fish ones, then you can’t be open on Sundays and Mondays. There ain’t no fresh produce arriving to restaurants on Sunday and Monday is the first day for the delivery to arrive, so Tuesday is the first possible working day. This should be case with all of the sushi/ Japanese restaurants at least…

Yume’s fish, raw, cooked or grilled is always of the best quality, meaty, fatty, just the most delicious pieces I’ve been eating anywhere in Helsinki. Compared to the previous menu, the nigiri selection stayed the same, but they’ve added back one of my favourites – white fish nigiri with shiso mayo! Mmmm, perfect little bite to start my dinner with.

yumetastic9

yumetastic8

Sashimi selection is of once again my favourite, flash seared whitefish in mango salsa sauce and salmon sashimi in ponzu sauce. Here you can see the white fish sashimi which was absolutely divine! Fruity, sweet, salty, dense, mix of everything and it works incredibly well together!

Both sushi rolls have changed into Kaisen roll and Tempura prawn roll. Kaisen roll is usually made of “catch of the day” with shiso, cucumber and yuzukosho mayo, while prawn roll contains perfectly fried tempura prawn with avocado horseradish and kogyi kyan/ spicy mayo. Both rolls are simply to die for! While Kaisen one is more simpler in taste and concentrated on the quality and cuts of the raw fish, prawn one is more rich in taste and it’s perfectly crispy tempura satisfies all of my cravings. 🙂

yumetastic6

Speaking of tempura… New addition to this menu is veggie tempura with two different dippings, one is Yume’s vinegar and another one is togarashi mayo. First of all, I must say that I have been trying to find the best tempura dish in all of the Japanese/ Asian restaurants I’ve been to on my trips and so far the only perfect one was in Helsinki at Kabuki restaurant, but I must admit that surprise, surprise, Yume is the gold medalist as of now! Perfectly fried pieces of fresh veggies in tempura dipped into either one of the two mentioned dips is what foodie dreams are made of! I know that the fried/ tempura dishes aren’t the most healthiest options I could go with, but good Lord was this dish totally worth indulging in? YES!

yumetastic7

Onto the entertaining and social way of eating – HOT STONES! The selection is the same as before, but new addition is scallop. Scallops are bland, taste-like-nothing sea jewels so the sauce/ dips are the ones which make them tasty. Yume’s scallops should be fried about 10 sec. on each side and then dipped into their green chili-sambal sauce. Be careful not to get addicted to those, because I def. did! 🙂

yumetastic10

yumetastic11

Main courses – new and rising stars are spring chicken and pork belly!

Spring chicken comes with pickled veggies in sesame soy sauce. Even without the complimentary rice, this dish will make you full and I’d recommend you to enjoy eating it without using the cutlery! The best way to enjoy this crispy and “fall – apart” perfection is to dig in with your hands and let your fingers get sticky, don’t be afraid to get bit “messy”. 🙂 If you’ve been to Yume before, this dish might remind you a lot of their legendary pork ribs! If you pair this dish with red wine Il Falchetto , Lurei you will thank me for forever, because the explosion which happens in your mouth will be overwhelming.

yumetastic4

Soy sauce braised pork belly comes with the lettuce, pak choi and shiso leaves to be wrapped into green rolls of happiness! 😀 You know how everybody tries to get in their veggies for the day, well try wrapping these buttery and juicy chunks of pork belly into the greens and you’ll see that greens never looked as pretty or tasted as good as they do wrapped up like this. 🙂

Final circle of Yumetastic heaven was peanut butter choco cake with choco ganache and milk yoghurt with berries. Very rich, almost too chocolaty cake for my taste, but when mixed with milk yoghurt and berries, everything balances out very well and I’m happily already dreaming of my next date with my very public lover Yume. 🙂

If you want to spend some of the best of times celebrating, laughing, food trippin’ or whatever it is you’re looking for on a special night out, go to Yume and let them surprise you with the top notch ambient, service and most importantly FOOD!!

FINNISH:

Voin vaan sanoa ettĂ€ heistĂ€ on tullut yhĂ€ enemmĂ€n inspiroivia ruokalistan ruokalajien tarjonnan suhteen. Ja se tapa miten he saavat jokaisen jokaisen ruokalajin parhaat puolet esiin, on minulle vielĂ€ ratkaisematon mysteeri. 🙂 Kuinka he sen aina tekevĂ€tkÀÀn.

Tempuras puhuakseni…TĂ€mĂ€n uuden ruokalista yksi uusi tulokas on kasvis tempura kahdella erilaisella dipillĂ€. Toinen nĂ€istĂ€ on Yumen viinietikka ja toinen on togarashi majoneesi. Ensiksi, minĂ€ olen yrittĂ€nyt löytÀÀ sitĂ€ parasta tempura annosta kaikista Japanilaisita / Aasialaisista ravintoloista, mihin olen ikinĂ€ eksynyt kaikilla matkoillani. Ja tĂ€hĂ€n pĂ€ivÀÀn asti se paras niistĂ€ on löytynyt HelsinkilĂ€isestĂ€ Kabuki ravintolasta. Mutta minun on pakko myöntÀÀ yllĂ€tys, yllĂ€tys ettĂ€ Yume vei nyt kulta mitalin tĂ€llĂ€ annoksella tĂ€ssĂ€ “kilpailussa”! TĂ€ydellisesti paistettuja kasvis paloja tempura kuorrutteella, dipattuna jompaan kumpaan mainitsemaani dippiin. On ruoka intoilijan mĂ€rkĂ€ pĂ€ivĂ€uni!

KevĂ€t kanan lisukkeena tulee marinoidut vihannekset seesami soija kastikkeessa. TĂ€mĂ€ annos on todella tĂ€yttĂ€vĂ€ ilman lisĂ€ riisiĂ€kin. Paras tapa nauttia tĂ€mĂ€ rapsakka helposti “hajoava tĂ€ydellisyys” on kĂ€ydĂ€ siihen kĂ€siksi kĂ€sin ja antaa sormien likaantua.

I remember, Cheers. Those were the days when there were nice things on the Telly; not repeats of repeats. I go to a little Italian eatery where they know my name, but your place looks, ‘ top notch’as we say here.

Oh, In case I have not told you. The film of the book is out next month. So that’s a ‘Must See’. However, its set in New York; not London. But will it be as good as the book?
