Visit Helsinki: Atelje Finne

I’d like to wish a lovely Wednesday morning to everyone!! I hope that you’ve embraced the magical vibe of December and are in time with all of your plans and “to-do” lists before the Christmas and New Year’s Eve festivities take over. 🙂 I’m bringing you another collaboration post as part of my Visit Helsinki series of posts in which I recommend you the best places in Helsinki for dining, shopping, exploring, staying at, etc.

Seeing how much you’ve been loving all of these posts, I’m more than eager to present you a very special, fine dining Finnish restaurant called Atelje Finne.

The restaurant got it’s name after a famous sculptor and interior designer Gunnar Finne. He has designed his own studio in the rock foundation of the building on Arkadian street, which is exactly the place where the restaurant Atelje Finne now takes place. This restaurant is one of few other restaurants that are ran by a very talented food visionnare Antto Melasniemi.

What can you find at Atelje Finne? You can expect the best of Finnish and in season cuisine with the high quality produce and very interesting and colourful food plating and pairing. This is def. one of the restaurants that leave no space for boring food. If you’re a wine lover and wish to have a glass of wine with your dinner, then it’s possible to do so by choosing one off the Atelje Finne’s extensive wine menu.

Only in December, lunch is being served, but otherwise, the restaurant is only open in the evenings from 5pm to midnight, so if you’re in Helsinki throughout this month, make sure to stop by for a delicious lunch or take your significant other along for a date night and enjoy the candle lit dinner.

On this “food trip” we have opted for two starters: reindeer terrine with pumpkin chutney and absolutely unique and very tasty vegetable tar tar with mushrooms and beluga lentils. Two main courses were: “Meat of the day” (a tenderloin in a red wine sauce with herricot verts and pickled beets) and in my mind, the best vegetarian dish and pretty much the best pasta that I ever ate in Helsinki (brussel sprouts ravioli with pumpkin and cheese sauce). Both dishes were absolutely perfect and were melting in our mouths.

To finish off the amazing evening filled with fireworks of tastes, we were ready for our desserts and have decided to try the liquorice spiced creme brûlée and whipped porridge of lemon with the coconut sorbet. No explanation needed! The desserts were as delicious as they sound like. 🙂

So my dear readers, bookmark Atelje Finne in your agenda as a must visit place for a fine dining, Finnish cuisine with a unique twist of maestro Antto!
