We are born perfect. Little angels sent to the hands of our parents, completely unaware of anything, not even having a good sight, not being able to speak or move on our own, yet, we come to this earth as a perfection. Our parents see us as a beautiful gift… As we grow up and become more aware of ourselves and world that surrounds us, we realise that there are equally wonderful, perfect human beings around us too. We see our parents as our queens and kings, moms are the most beautiful creatures ever and dads are the charmers in their own way too. đ When we looked at ourselves in the mirror as little babies or toddlers, we would finally be aware of ourselves too. We would see how beautiful and cute we are, we would smile back at the reflection in the mirror and run off happily, minding our own day…
While we were kids, the beauty which we saw in us and around us, depended on how our parents saw us, how they talked to us and treated us. As we were growing older, we were exposed to many more people and information than before, so those were important influencers too on how we were going to perceive ourselves.
Having experienced first loves as well as first breakups, maybe experiencing comparison, jealousy or bullying from others were all the key factors to how we were seeing ourselves and how we would respond to that reflection “in the mirror” once we looked at ourselves in it.
So many times in my life I’ve hated the reflexion in the mirror… All I could see were the faults, not the ones that truly existed, but the ones that were the damages on my soul. I used to always seek for extra approval from my parents, acceptance from my siblings, being better or equally as beautiful, smart and “wanted” as my school friends… Later on in life, I have so often portrayed myself according to how some guy I liked or was with in a relationship saw me and treated me. To put it frankly, if somebody wasn’t nice towards me or wasn’t accepting me ( good or bad sides ), the thought which would immediately run through my mind was: “It’s because I’m not beautiful enough/ I’m not smart enough/ I’m not short enough/ I’m not entertaining enough, etc.”
The more I’ve been looking for an approval and acceptance from everybody around me and not finding it from and inside of myself, I was getting more and more frustrated trying to figure out how to change myself so I would fit in the world and I would be considered beautiful, smart and wanted too. I didn’t realise that I was farther from finding out my peace and the truth than ever before.
What is beautiful? Who decides on who or what makes somebody or something beautiful? Isn’t it also that opinions vary, something that is beautiful or interesting to me will be of no beauty and interest to another person. After all, we all see things and people according to how we in general see the world and ourselves. “The beauty is in the eye of beholder.”
Yes, we are not those little perfect babies or toddlers who used to love and smile back on their perfect reflection in the mirror, but we are a perfect adults now. We are perfect, beautiful, smart and inspiring just the way we are. Some of our features are incredibly beautiful, charming and captivating and that’s what makes us beautiful inside and on the outside, not the flawless faces, perfect hair, height, etc. Our spontaneity, funny spirit, OUR BRAIN and the honesty of our smiles are things which can and will bring you and surround you with people who will love you and appreciate you for exactly who you are with all of your flaws and imperfections.
One last sentence… The happiest and richest of people in this world were not given the best looks, odds, smarts, you name it… They were aware of all of their flaws and have turned them into their main assets!
Next time you check out yourself in the mirror, kiss that reflection and tell yourself that you love yourself because you’re beautiful and amazing just as you are! Just try and see how people and the world will respond to “new” you. đ

FINNISH:
Me olemme kaikki syntyneet tĂ€ydellisinĂ€. Olemme pikku enkeleitĂ€ jotka on lĂ€hetetty meidĂ€n vanhempiemme syliin. Olemme tĂ€ysin epĂ€tietoisia mistÀÀn silloin kuin synnymme. MeillĂ€ on tĂ€ysin olematon nĂ€kö, emme osaa puhua emmekĂ€ liikkua millÀÀn tavalla. Aloimme vihdoinkin olemaan tietoisia omasta itsestĂ€mme. NĂ€imme ettĂ€ miten kauniita ja suloisia me olimme.
Ja miten me vastaamme “peilikuvaan”, silloin kun me katsomme itseĂ€mme peilistĂ€.
MikĂ€ on kaunis?
Vaan me olemme nyt tĂ€ydellisiĂ€ aikuisia.

Odlicna!

Lovely and wise words. I love the end when you say to turn flaws into assets! It reminds me of a podcast I started listening to by Dr. Gail Saltz called “The Power of Different.” I encourage you to give it a try!
