Sunday cafe: Meet Toni

Welcome to the first “Sunday cafe” this year. I’m very happy to continue introducing you to the bunch of unique, inspiring and talented people and friends that I’m surrounded by which are fully “adopted” Finns as myself. 🙂

It’s an honor to start this Sunday’s cafe by introducing you to Toni! A gorgeous soul with the softest heart, toughest balls, impressive strength and will to never stop dreaming, creating and always find a way of how to fight through the hard times and come out the “other side” while never loosing graciousness in her moves and kindness in her words.

I met Toni almost a decade ago and ever since, we’ve been sharing ups and downs of our lives in Helsinki… Without any more rumbling, here is Toni:

What is your name and how young are you? 

Toni Marie Iommi, 33!

Family name, Italian. Full of color and a unique character.

My first name Toni is a boy/girl name all depending on the spelling. Toni with an “i” is for girls and Tony with “y” is for men. My fathers name is Tony too but with a “y” So we are Tony and Toni, we have nicknames at home to prevent concussion when our names are being called 😊

When and why did you move to Finland and where? 

In 2008 I moved to Helsinki, I was living right in the heart of this beautiful city. I met a Finnish guy and within a short amount of time I found myself permanently living in Finland.
I’d say Finland is very different from my home town in the UK of course the language plays a huge part. I’ve become more shut off as a listener as I can’t understand what those around me are talking about.

What is your understanding/knowledge of Finnish language?

I do understand a little Finnish but still I struggle to keep up with the conversation. So I’ve adapted to this way of being and now save all my ear wig’n for my UK visits. 😀

What are the main differences between U.K. and Finland?

We in the UK are pretty talkative and like to talk and socialize.
In Finland I do feel the difference of character when it comes to “social talking” but I don’t mind, I still chit chat no matter if it’s welcomed or not, most of the time, it’s very much welcomed 😊 I love the space Finland has to offer. The U.K. feels over crowded and it can get a bit frustrating at times. So I really enjoy that part of Finland!

Name 3 things which you would bring with you to a deserted island.

3 things I’d take, that’s a bit difficult. First thing, would be moisturizer! If my hands and lips get dry, that drives me crazy!!! I hate that feeling! Same feeling you would get putting dry toilet paper in your mouth! Yuk! Second thing, booze because that can offer comfort in the most shitty’est of times!
Then last, I’d take my cat! We can hunt together and keep each other warm! Best company ever ❤️

What is your favorite trip you’ve been to? 

My fav trip… Well, because I’m living in Finland my favorite trip is going back home to see my family and friends! I eat like crazy and laugh until it hurts! 😀 Nothing better then that!

What is your life motto?

Life motto: “Be a duck in the water.” I’m the duck and all the outside shit can just drop off just like the water does for the duck.
I have tough skin but I’m in no way hatful or wish any harm amongst others. I have seen pain and felt it too. It’s taken me years to find who am I! Finally I have reached that point! Trusting myself and believing in myself. Freedom 😊

Your favorite hobby? 

Love music- (listening to it, writing songs, singing)
Love watching movies, love eating good food, love animals and helping them in anyway I can, love laughing, love spending time with my friends, love talking!!!! 🤗
