Gateau artisan bakery

Gateau artisan bakery has arrived to Finland and it’s spread out like a wild fire over the most prime spots in Helsinki. Gateau stands for a rich cakes, usually containing layers of cream or fruit. Gateau artisan bakery started to operate back in 1937 in Stockholm, Sweden so it’s easy to say that they have a long and impressive history of baking the Nordic artisan breads, pastries and cakes with a touch of French style. 

Gateau artisan bakery has 40 bakeries in Sweden and currently counting 14 bakeries in Helsinki and Espoo. I had a privilege to visit Gateau bakery in Ullanlinna, one of the poshest parts of Helsinki. I’d say that it was a perfect choice to open a bakery in such prime spot even though the competition is tough and there are 2 more similar shops/ bakeries only couple of steps from each other.

It was a rainy and cold morning and I was eager to hide myself from the bad weather inside of small but cozy Gateau bakery. I was greeted by the smile and friendly girl working at the bakery. Smell of freshly baked bread and delicious looking pastries such as pistachio bun, cinnamon bun, doughnuts and croissants completely awoke all of my senses. 😀 After checking through the display and having hard times what to pick for myself, I went ahead with their hummus sandwich, Gateau black tea and a pistachio bun.

I have also kindly asked the girl to suggest me which bread I should pick and bring home with me and she has right away convinced me that I simply must try their G bread (rye sourdough bread) which is definitely a bestseller as during my visit to the bakery, there were at least 3 customers coming in and asking for the same bread.

Back to the display window and some more goodies which you can find there were homemade sandwiches, quiches and Gateau’s special cakes. If you wish, you can either buy them on spot or preorder everything you want online and then just come to the bakery for the pickup.

To be honest, just like that, small thing such as visiting Gateau artisan bakery on a dreary day, got my mood brightened up as I have enjoyed every moment of sipping on my tea and enjoying my food while admiring aesthetically pleasing bakery corners filled with everything that your heart desires. 🙂

As I’m writing this, one more Gateu artisan bakery just opened on the most important shopping and sight seeing street in Helsinki – Esplanadi. I can’t wait to go there and visit it too. Stay tuned for more about Gateu in one of my next posts.
