I love layered outfits, period! As much as I’m a sucker for Summer, bare feet, messy hair, simple tee and denim shorts on, I’m equally loving more complex and layered outfits. Usually, this far into Fall, I live in layered outfits. If I can stay warm while being stylish, that’s a double score in my books! 🙂
Problem that might occur when dressing into layers is that it’s easy to “overdo” those looks and put way too many clothes and accessories on, resulting in a too kitchy or “off” outfit. I’d say that as in everything, staying true to your style and knowing what feels comfortable are the first two rules which you should follow with layered outfits. Start from that one key piece that you’re intending to wear ( like this shirt for example ) and then slowly start building your outfit around it, piece by piece, until you’re comfortable to go out dressed like that.
I must say that I did turn many heads wearing this outfit but to be honest, I couldn’t care less… I LOVE lounging in my PJs with no make up on and just being all “au naturel”, but I also love letting my alter ego come out and create a playful outfit like this one. I might not live in the most fashion centred or inspiring city but that shouldn’t stop me ( or anybody ) to wear whatever you want ( as long as you’re not insulting somebody ) whenever you want to.
Just think about it… How many times you’ve seen those “cool” girls/ women walk around in an outfit which you wish you were wearing, but you can’t because: it’s not NYC, you’ll stand out too much, everybody will look at you, it’s just for the fashion magazines, etc.?
You have only one card to play, only one life to live, so run your own show… Set your stage and rule your little Universe, because if you can’t allow yourself that little bit of fun and authenticity, then you won’t be able to fight for some bigger and more important things which require much “louder” and more complicated approach. Don’t hide – show that you exist and that you’re one of a kind, unique human.
