Gourmet moment: Citrus chicken

October 5, 2016

As you might have already noticed, I love to cook at home and create new as well as re-create some of my all time favourite dishes. The recipe which I’ll share with you today is one of the ultimate favourites in my family and everybody loves it equally as much. I love to prepare it on Sunday, when I usually feel really lazy but I still want to cook something healthy, so this recipe then comes in as a perfect saviour since it doesn’t require much time spent by the stove and oven, but the outcome is always a super delicious one.

Visit Helsinki: Farang

September 29, 2016

First ever to open restaurant by Matti Wikberg and Tomi Björck was Farang. After Farang came another 4 restaurants which create BW restaurants that are equally successful and operating in Helsinki ,Finland and Stockholm, Sweden.

Farang brings your senses on a foodie trip to Southeast Asia, with strong Thai influences, where the “magic” of food lies in sharing it from big bowls and eating a lot of the dishes by using either spoon or with fingers.

Farang tarjoaa Foodie matkan aisteja Kaakkois-Aasiaan, höystettynä Thaimaan vaikutteilla. Täällä ruuan “taika” perustuu jakamiseen isoista kulhoista, syöden joko lusikalla tai sormin.

Visit Helsinki: Boulevard Social

September 22, 2016

It’s been couple of months since I’ve been to a wonderful restaurant in the heart of Helsinki city – Boulevard Social. If you are interested, you can read my previous review here. It was around Christmas time when I had the pleasure to try the enchanting tastes and flavours of Mediterranean delight at Boulevard Social. Third restaurant to open by the BW restaurant chain, but nothing less successful or amazing as compared to the other restaurants.

Gourmet moment: Baked octopus

September 14, 2016

I’m a fishy-fish kind of gal! Anything fish scores big time with me. 🙂 I love seafood in general and I can eat it raw, cooked, grilled, baked… It all sounds and tastes wonderful to me. One of my ultimate faves is baked octopus. I grew up eating this type of dish very often, esp. in the summertime. I got lucky to find a fresh octopus in my local grocery store so I decided to buy half of it and prepare a nice Sunday lunch for two. I believe that if you have a smaller appetite, this would be enough of lunch for three or even four persons.

Visit Helsinki: YUME-tastic

September 7, 2016

I’m not sure how many of you have watched or remember the legendary TV series “Cheers”? That little cafe where “everybody knows your name”? Yep, that’s how I feel each time I step inside of Yume restaurant, as my second home, place where everybody knows my name and every time I come there, I know that I’m up for a special treat. Ever since discovering Yume’s fusion flavours bringing us the best of tastes of Asia, I have been a devoted fan of their kitchen and vision. After following through their 4 menu changes, I can only say that they’ve been getting more and more inspiring with the selection of dishes on the menu and the way how they get the best out of each dish is still unresolved mystery to me. 😀 How can they deliver at all times with all of the dishes on the menu? I mean, their sides are equally mind-blowing too.

Visit Helsinki: Pastis brunch

August 31, 2016

Pastis is the anise flavoured spirit and aperitif from France, typically containing up to 45% alcohol by the volume and 100 gr of sugar per litre. This is the mini task I gave to myself upon visiting Pastis last weekend for brunch – to check out the meaning of word/ name “Pastis”. I saw beautiful, empty bottles labeled Pastis by the big restaurant’s windows and that’s when the curiosity about the name started.

Taco lunch

August 24, 2016

Tacos for lunch?! Count me in! Ever since living in LA, I got so hooked on Mexican food and there, we had plenty of options on every corner. My favourite ones ended up being Antonio’s on Merlose Blvd and Pink Taco on Sunset Blvd. Here in Helsinki, we’ve been having more and more options to eat some good Mexican food too, some of the favourites being Pueblo, Chalupa and Cholo.

Today, I wanted to share one very simple, but delicious recipe for tacos which you can easily prepare at home too. It’s also not time consuming, so you’ll have your lunch ready in max. 30 mins from the moment you start prepping it.

Smoked salmon soup

August 3, 2016

salmonsoup3

Ever since moving to Finland about 9 and half years ago, I had a chance to try many salmon soups. Finland is very well known to serve some of the best salmon soups in the world, but I wasn’t as impressed with that many as I was expecting. Out of all of the restaurants, cafes and even some home cooked salmon soups, there were maybe 2-3 of them which made me feel like I’ve been eating something really special and delicious.

Muutettuani Suomeen noin 9 ja puoli vuotta sitten. Olen saanut maistaa monen monta lohikeittoa.

Visit Helsinki: Saaristo

July 28, 2016

Just when I thought that I have experienced pretty much everything that Helsinki has to offer, I was proven SO wrong by visiting restaurant Saaristo! Visit Helsinki cycle of posts brings us to another gem on Helsinki’s gastronomy scene, Finnish traditional cuisine presented in a fine dining way. I’d say that restaurant Saaristo is situated on a wonderful location to take your significant other for a romantic trip/ dinner or organise a celebration, such as your own wedding perhaps.

Visit Helsinki: Roster

July 21, 2016

roster12

I’ve been eagerly waiting to present you the new, hottest and most awaited opening of a restaurant in Helsinki’s food scene – Roster! In my “Visit Helsinki” section, I’m happy to write about this “newborn” but don’t be fooled, it’s partially owned by big chain of great restaurants “Royal Ravintolat” and is ran by three skilled, passionate and with a long careers in their pockets, chefs Kari Aihinen, Olli Kolu and Burt Kotkavuori, all originating from a fine dining, one of the longest standing kitchens of Savoy restaurant. Let’s not forget to mention Mr.Boss – Paul Hickman, overlooking everything and equally putting in as much love and dedication.
