Good Sunday dear readers! I’m back with my Sunday cafe in which I’m happy to present you young and inspiring creative minds which I’ve met here in Finland that aren’t Finnish or in today’s “case” a wonderful persona in form of my brother, somebody who’s been visiting Finland for many years and has been influenced by it in numerous ways.
I have two brothers and I was lucky to have my older brother stay with me for the whole month of November. I couldn’t pass on the opportunity to sit down with this young gentleman and “attack” him with some questions for Sunday cafe. I’m proud of you bro and I love you! This is what he has to say to my “interrogating”:
What is your name and age?
My name is Ivica, friends and family call me Ive and I’m 21 years young. 🙂
When was the first time you have visited Finland and what was the reason for you to visit it?
My first visit to Helsinki, Finland was 9 years ago for my big sister’s wedding. I still remember that trip very vividly. I’ve heard only praising words about Finland from my sister, so I was very excited to visit it for the first time.
How do you like Finland?
Finland is a beautiful country with lots of unique, interesting and “different” places to visit and experience. I like Finland a lot and always feel inspired after visiting it.
How much do you understand/ know some Finnish words?
Since I’ve been visiting Finland quite often in the past 9 years, I can say that I have learned a few everyday sentences and can understand some words when I’m reading but in reality, Finnish language is the hardest one I’ve come across and I don’t think that I’ll be ever able to learn it. I might set myself up on this challenge, you never know. 😀
What do you like about Finland the most and what is it that you don’t like so much about Finland?
I love Finland for it’s beautiful nature, interesting traditions, modern architecture, technology, innovates, etc. I adore Helsinki and it’s like my 2nd home! Even though I’ve been visiting it so many times, there’re still places which I haven’t discovered yet, so I’m always looking forward to my next trip to this wonderful city.
When it comes to “negative” aspects of Finland, the only problem in my eyes in harsh weather/ Winter. It can get really cold, dark and that can get to you and make you feel down or even depressed, esp. if you don’t get to see sun for weeks, which is totally “normal” for Finland.
What are your hobbies/ passions?
My obsession and inspiration in music! I can’t recall a day which passed by and I haven’t listed to a single song on YouTube or iTunes. I’m professionally getting more and more involved in music production and DJing. I’ve been performing on a few smaller music festivals in my home country Croatia and lots of night clubs. I love edm music and that’s what my live DJ sets mostly consist of. At the moment I have two productions which you can listen to on my sound cloud HERE . In the free time, I like to go to the gym for a good session of sweaty workout or I like to go to the cinema and check out the latest Hollywood blockbusters.
List 3 things you would bring with you to a deserted island?
Headphones, phone and food… Hm… How about some portable, always “loaded” charging station? 😀
What is your favourite trip you took somewhere and why?
It’s tough to choose my favourite trip because I’ve been travelling around a lot and there’re so many beautiful places and cities which I’ve been to, but if I have to already pick only one, then it must be my trip to Prague, Czech Republic because it’s one of the most beautiful, historical, romantic and magical cities I’ve ever been too! The old city center is incredible, walking through it felt as if I was on a movie set.
Prague’s architecture, Karl’s bridge, it’s restaurants, bars… EVERYTHING was just superb!
What is your life motto?
My life motto is to always do what you love to do and stand for what you believe in, because if you’re doing something you’re not interested in and something that doesn’t make you fulfilled or motivated, you’ll never be happy or successful!
Recommend book, song, movie
Book: If on a Winter’s Night a Traveler by Italo Calvino
